Ways to Treat Your Sinus Headache

A sinus headache can blind you to the sane world. It is too debilitating for your work and life. Such cause for nuisance is unpredictable too and thus, makes your life come to a halt. You need to treat the headache along with the fundamental cause. The pressure and pain above your nose and between both eyes can be too severe, but there are a few ways that have been known to treat sinus headaches -

* The one thing that everyone rushes to after having a sinus headache is the over-the-counter relievers of pain. Medicines like Tylenol or Advil can help in pain alleviation. Antibiotics are used for seven days at least but do not use them unless prescribed and follow the instructions strictly. Keep revisiting your doctor to see if there is any change in your condition or if a different medical course should be taken.

* Clean out your sinuses! Nasal lavage can be done by bulb syringe and salt water. Your nasal passage becomes mucus-free, as it is now free from moisture. This will relieve you from the pressure experienced during a sinus headache. The water must be previously boiled or distilled. The device should be rinsed after every use and allowed to air-dry.

* Decongestants are over-the-counter medicines that reduce swelling in the nasal passages and thus, open the blockage of sinus cavities. But do follow the instructions on the label. These decongestants are not meant to be used continuously for three days.

* Oral decongestants are not meant to be used for seven days in a row.

* Try out other medicines too. If you are sure that your sinus problems are due to allergies, then antihistamine allergy medicine helps. The doctor could also suggest sprays of nasal steroid, as well as other drugs. These reduce your problem of congestion and the sinus headache.

* You must be careful and protect yourself from major irritants of nasal passages, like perfume and cigarette smoke, as well as particular chemicals.

* Your nasal passage must be kept moist as it is the dry air that irritates and worsens your sinuses. There are things you can do to combat a dry nose. Like - using a vaporizer or humidifier, nasal spray of a saline solution or placing a warm and wet towel on your face and removing it in a few minutes.

* See a doctor if symptoms persist, like- pain, stiff neck, fever, swelling of eyes and face, redness around cheeks and eyes, confusion, etc.

In case of failure of medical solutions and repeated problems of sinus, you can opt for the extreme approach, which is surgery. An early and accurate diagnosis will take you on to the most effective path of treatment.
